EVERYTHING You Need to Know About LED Light Therapy Facial
You’ve probably heard of LED at least once in your life. Even if it was at a Lowes, standing in the light bulb aisle and Jeff in the electrical department recommenced you opt for the LED bulbs instead of fluorescent. Or maybe you’ve seen some super crazy pictures on Instagram of glowing faces and an array of brightly colored lights, with anti aging and acne reducing promises. To whatever extent your LED knowledge is, I’m here today to enLIGHTen you on LED Skin Therapy, and help you see what is can do for you! (See what I did there? enLIGHTen… Get it? Like LED light? *crickets… Any who..)
Let’s get into it!
What is LED Light Therapy Facial?
LED (meaning Light Emitting Diode) Light Therapy is a non-invasive technology that uses the application of specific light wavelengths to obtain health benefits to tissue. This powerful form of light energy stimulates your body’s natural cellular processes to boost the skins ability to heal and balance itself. Each color of light has different benefits to the skin, and some light rays penetrate deeper than others.
What Exactly Will LED Light Therapy Facial do for me?
When used consistently, over time, LED lights penetrate your skin at different depths and cause various reactions in your skin, such as fighting acne-causing bacteria, plumping skin, and reducing wrinkles. A course of treatments offers corrective and long-lasting results, although you’ll be able to see a difference after the first session. LED Light therapy facial is also particularly calming, so you’ll leave with your skin feeling very refreshed.
It’s recommended be used for skin rejuvenation, healing sun damage, reducing acne, calming rosacea, eczema, psoriasis, dermatitis, sensitive and other inflammatory conditions, wound healing, and scarring, and boosting skin’s radiance. Think of the light rays as giving your skin a big hug, and encouraging your skin to do its job to the best of its abilities.
So How Does LED Light Therapy Facial Work?
Because of good old aging, skin disorders, or even trauma to the skin, healthy skin cells can overtime become compromised, and won’t renew as quickly or normally as it did when it was younger and healthier. So, until we find the
fountain of youth, we can use different techniques and modern science to stimulate the cell renewal process, and create healthy skin tissue. The light becomes an energy source to skin to stimulate cell’s repair. This light energy also stimulates the production of collagen and elastin and increases circulation.
Where Did LED Light Therapy Come From?
LED light therapy had been implemented since the early 1900’s, being used for inflammation relief of chronic auto immune disorders, and even on injured horses! There have been countless studies over the years on the efficacy of Light Therapy, but one of my favorites is how NASA technology originally developed LED light therapy for plant growth experiments in space, and discovered the amazing benefits to humans. Pretty cool!
Does Each Color of Light Have a Different Purpose?
LED Light Therapy uses different color wavelengths of visible light, and each color has specific skin benefits. For example, blue light has powerful antibacterial properties to help reduce acne and balance the production of oil. Now, red light boosts our natural hydration, reduces inflammation and red skin, improves circulation, boosts skin repair. Also, yellow light helps reduce redness post sunburn or irritation, and calms eczema and rosacea. There are are an array of colors, but these are my favorite as they are the ones with the most proven benefits, and the most research on them.
Who Should Try LED Light Therapy?
Light therapy is good for all skin types- just about everyone can benefit from it, as it is such a diverse treatment. However, those pregnant, with photo sensitivity, suffering from migraines, epilepsy or other neurological disorders should consult their doctor first.
How Often Should I Do LED Light Therapy?
You will notice a difference after just one half hour session. However, most professionals recommend 4-6 weekly sessions to see optimal results. Your Skin Care Professional will recommend the best options for you.
Is Light Therapy Painful?
Not at all! LED Light therapy facial is completely non-invasive and does not hurt at all. All you may feel is a tiny bit of warmth. However you should mention to your skin care professional if you suffer from frequent headaches, as extra precautions can be taken to completely block all light from your eyes with pads and goggles, in case light is one of your triggers.
Is There Any Risk of Sunburn, Tanning, or Sun Damage With LED Light Therapy?
Gladly no! There are no UV lights in LED lights so there’s no risk of burning, tanning, or damaging the skin whatsoever. LED Light therapy is very safe to use, and only promotes healing and healthy skin cell turnover.
