Should I do a face oil cleanse?
Oil cleansing your face used to be something you would only hear about if you were reading about Korean skincare, but now, it’s becoming mainstream! A lot of people are straight up terrified to put an oil on their face. Weren’t we told that oils would clog up our pores and to use oil free products? Although this is true, certain oils can not only just be safe to use on your skin, they can bring insane benefits to it!
When a lot of people think of cleansing their face, they think of scrubbing their face with a foamy lathering cleanser, leaving behind squeaky clean skin. But if this is overdone, it can lead to a compromised moisture barrier, red, irritated dry skin. Oil cleansing is a great way to prevent this from happening, while still removing dirt, makeup, and excess oil and sebum from the face.
So how does it work?
Well the basic principle behind oil cleansing is that oil dissolves oil. A face oil cleanser is designed to remove makeup, dead skin, and excess sebum from the face to prevent clogged pores. If you’ve ever tried to use a water based cleanser to remove mascara, you’ll understand the struggle. An oil cleanser will dissolve everything unwanted on the skin, while still adding hydration and not compromising our skins natural barrier or throwing off the skins pH.
